SAILING ON THE BASQUE COAST
AT FIRST SIGHT
The beautiful scenery and green hills of Basque Country are peppered with charming villages where the white stone caserios (Basque homes) are decorated with their family crests, and balconies are dripping with bright geraniums. Heading to the coast, the bustling fishing towns of the Atlantic are colorful and full of delicious seafood. What then could be better than to sail to the city in Spain most renowned for its culinary gold and exciting atmosphere? San Sebastian awaits, and we arrive on a gorgeous antique sailboat.
THE NAVARRA BASQUE VILLAGE
Elegant 16th century stone buildings and pretty bridges extending over the clear-as-light waters of the Bidasoa River, perfect for a photo stop.
SECRET SEASIDE HOTSPOTS
We will enjoy a stroll and a light lunch at a gorgeous seaside restaurant, widely considered to be the best in Pasajes.
ON OUR WAY TO SAN SEBASTIAN
We go at our own pace, so there is plenty of time when we dock in San Sebastian’s world-famous La Concha Harbor to jump into the sea and have a refreshing swim, or to sunbathe and snooze on the deck.
DOCK ON THE CONCHA BAY
Roam the beautiful old town center to find the best pintxos, the delicious bite-size creations you won’t find anywhere else in the world.
Our adventure-filled day trip begins with a stop in Sunbilla, a picture-perfect village in northeastern Navarra. Next we head to the bay of Pasajes, the colorful fishing port northeast of San Sebastian. Here we will visit the Victor Hugo house-museum, to learn about his time in this historic town. The pièce de resistance is boarding our private antique sailboat. We sail the Atlantic coast westwards, sipping cava, the Spanish sparkling wine, and feeling the wind and sun on our faces. We finish the afternoon with a bar hop to sample what San Sebastian does best – gastronomy.
